The holidays in Nigeria are a little different than at home. I am sure that as Americans we overdo it a bit. But I still miss seeing holiday stuff everywhere I go. So we finally had to do something about it. We put on some Christmas music and put up a tree that we inherited from another family that used to live here. We had lights, but we realized that we didn’t have any ornaments. So we rummaged around and found some trinkets lying around. Then we popped some popcorn and made some strings of it. We didn’t have a star or an angel for the top. So we used an action figure from Lord of the Rings. Girl who can kick butt...angel…same difference.
We decided that it would be a nice touch to the tree if we put some pictures of our families in the tree. Mostly, it doesn’t feel like Christmas time because it isn’t really cold outside and there has been any snow. So we made some of that too. We hung some paper snow flakes from the ceiling.
And we got really excited because we found spray snow at a store in town. We thought it would be the kind that you spray on the window to make it look like it was outside. Unfortunately, that is not what it really was. It was something like shaving cream. If you spray it in the air or on something, it looks like snow…until it melts away a few seconds later. Well, we tried.
